We worked with artist Alexis Snell, a printmaker who works with beautifully unique linocuts to create Passion Flower wallpaper, also available in a lilac and silver colour way and as a lampshade.
The dark opulence of this wallpaper is reminiscent of gothic interiors, with twisting, muted gold floral patterns laid into midnight black. When the flowers catch the light, they come alive to dance on the paper and showcase the abstract print in all its glory.
We have retained the organic feel of this bold lino cut design by using the surface printing technique, the oldest automated printing method, which very closely replicates lino printing, leaving a thick layer of ink on the surface of the paper which gives a slightly textured handmade feel to the wallpaper. This also makes the wallpaper very hardwearing.
Passion Flower works well in an alcove or as a deep border above a picture rail. It’s perfect for bringing a touch of dark maximalism to a room, and when combined with pastel shades adds interest to a mid century scheme.
“I like things that are a bit dark and strange and I'm always drawn to a good story. A flea market, a late night drunken conversation, an old advert or a matchbox might get me thinking about a new idea. Inspiration and where you find it is always a bit of a mystery. Lyrics of songs, wandering about car boot sales, getting sucked into films, a visit to an odd town….for me the best ideas come when my head is switching off from work." - Alexis Snell
