🎨 We're delighted to introduce...Saima Kaur!
Specialising in hand embroidery inspired by Indian folk art, Saima's playful style, use of colour and sense of humour made her the perfect fit to be our next new artist.
Saima is based in Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire, but so far this has been an entirely virtual process and I can't wait for the time when we can actually meet!
Saima's work is informed by embroideries from the Punjab know as Phulkaris, especially those that explore the bold happenings of village life.
Despite growing up amongst these beautiful creations, Saima didn't learn how to sew until much later in life, which may have given her the unique perspective, and sometimes unconventional approach that we look for in our artists.
Saima first contacted us last summer following the publicity from our Design for Diversity pledge, in which we actively seek to represent the diversity of our region in the artists we work with.
We're hoping to launch our new design created with Saima Kaur later in 2021.
