We worked with Alexis Snell, a printmaker who works with strange, dark, angular characters that look as if they’ve just emerged from a fairytale, to create Passion Flower wallpaper.
The artists’ punchy, lino cut prints have been re-created by Charlotte and Alexis through surface printing to replicate their original feel. This is one of the oldest automated printing techniques still in use today, where an engraved rubber roller picks up the ink and lays it down onto high-quality paper to emulate a textured aesthetic.
The dark opulence of this wallpaper is reminiscent of gothic interiors, with twisting, muted gold floral patterns laid onto a midnight black, non woven base paper. When the flowers catch the light, they come alive to dance on the paper and showcase the abstract print in all its glory.
“I like things that are a bit dark and strange and I'm always drawn to a good story. A flea market, a late night drunken conversation, an old advert or a matchbox might get me thinking about a new idea. Inspiration and where you find it is always a bit of a mystery. Lyrics of songs, wandering about car boot sales, getting sucked into films, a visit to an odd town….for me the best ideas come when my head is switching off from work.
