  • Between Certainty and Oblivion linen

Select to order sample or quantity

An intriguing monochrome linen fabric suitable for curtains, blinds, light upholstery and cushions.

    Design Notes

In one of our most interesting collaborations to date, we worked with conceptual artist Joel Weaver to turn his exquisite, miniature pencil drawings into an intriguing, monochrome fabric design.

Joel, an alumni of Damien Hirst's studio, creates tiny, highly detailed figurative pencil drawings which explore mysterious narratives and allegorical visual constructions.

"My drawings are subtle in their approach and delivery," says Joel, "hinting at the use of symbolic, surrealist and absurdist combinations. I deconstruct then reconstruct certain elements of an image from their original context and combine them with other images in order to a create a new mise en scène. With this reinvented reality, new narratives form. There is a play with interpretation and perception. I invite the viewer to study closely and to observe a world in which things are not quite as they seem."

Working with Joel to translate his vision into a fabric design, we created 'Between Certainty and Oblivion', an abstract striped design in which two of Joel's original artworks have been scaled up and spliced together. In these layers of alternating images in varying shades of grey you see glimpses of mountains, buildings and people. The viewer seeks to find a hidden narrative in this oblique, fractured dreamscape.

Previously featured in Elle Decoration magazine, 'Between Certainty and Oblivion' is suitable for curtains, roman blinds and light upholstery, and would look equally at home in a minimal, contemporary setting as in a period interior. This ethereal design is made from 100% linen and can also be purchased as a ready-made luxury cushion or lampshade.

    Subtle and dynamic

I have lovely curtains made from this fabric, plus a couple of cushions. They are in a madly coloured room with bright cupboards and flooring, and they go so well, the monochrome complements the colour and the dynamism of the design is funky and exciting, while being sophisticated. The fabric is heavy and very good at blocking light, it also falls in lovely folds. Recommended.

Beautiful and subtle fabric by Joel Weaver/The Monkey Puzzle Tree

Loved this from the moment I saw it and have since used it for a project where it was perfect for the blinds. Such an original and interesting way to bring art into your home. And Charlotte is a pleasure to deal with too.
