The Artist behind the Design - Alexis Snell
    Happy Spring!

Continuing our theme for finding out a little more about the artists behind our designs, this month we thought you might like to learn about the work of printmaker Alexis Snell.

Alexis is well known for her darkly humorous and characterful lino print illustrations which have been featured in everything from a cast bronze table which was commissioned by the V&A Museum, to a recent Doctor Who book for the BBC.
We love that Alexis's designs share the ethos of the Arts and Craft Movement, using nature as inspiration and creating original design through a hand crafted process.
You can see in our Passion Flower wallpaper collaboration that we have retained this organic feel by using the surface printing technique, the oldest automated printing method, which very closely replicates lino printing, leaving a thick layer of ink on the surface of the paper which gives a slightly textured handmade feel to the wallpaper. This also makes the wallpaper very hardwearing.
For 'How the Leopard got his Spots' velvet, we asked Alexis to print the design multiple times by hand before transferring the finished print onto velvet. So in the final design you can see the natural print variations across each leopard (there are 18 different leopards in total), and this gives the print a unique depth and character not achieved in a digital design.

Alexis's designs are a great way to add a touch of personality to your home. Use a small amount of wallpaper in an alcove or above a curtain rail to add drama to a room without overpowering it. Our hard wearing printed velvets can be used to make roman blinds, curtains or upholstery, or as cushions to add a hint of pattern.
Earlier this month we could be found frantically trying to search our local WHSmith to find a copy of the Interior Design Yearbook 2019 which has featured us in a company profile. We were also very pleased to be mentioned in a blog post from Interiors Consultants Fresh Start Living, who used our 'How the Leopard got his Spots' velvet in a roman blind in their office.
We're always happy to send samples out (please contact us by phone on 0113 4503639 or by replying to this email), but If you'd like to come and meet us and see our range for yourself, our next event will be Clerkenwell Design Week in London this May:

Coming soon - We're just starting work on our new collection to be launched this Autumn! Look out for more information on our new artist collaborations in our next e mail.

    Thanks for reading!
